Grandmaster tips
Practical recommendations for chess players of any level of training.
The most common mistakes made by newbies
Most beginners lose games due to typical violations of the basic principles of the opening:
- Fight for the center:Ignoring central squares (e4, d4, e5, d5) at the beginning of the game.
- Early queen withdrawal:Attempts to attack with the queen alone, which causes it to fall under the tempo of the opponent’s minor pieces.
- Multiple moves with one piece:Loss of precious development rates.
- No castling:The king remains in the center of the board under direct attack.
- Banal “yawns”:Inattention to capturing one's own pieces and pawns. It is important to see the entire board while playing!
How to achieve the first rank?
The transition from an amateur to the first category requires a systematic approach to training:
- Group classes:Group training 3 times a week to analyze typical schemes and plans.
- Daily Tactics:Solving at least 20-30 tactical problems or studies a day to develop “chess acumen.”
- Regular gaming practice:Participation in face-to-face classical tournaments and rapids, followed by an in-depth analysis of the games played.
- Independent work:Reading classical literature (games of Alekhine, Capablanca, Karpov) and studying opening theory.
